Welcome! In this site, you will find some of the most spectacular and intricate kaleidoscopes anywhere. Meticulously handbuilt, each instrument is a unique artwork that utilizes the magic of polarized light and geometric tiling theory to conjure miniature psychedelic vistas with fractal-like detail. Patterns from tiling theory are painstakingly "etched" in minute detail on the interior objects. All scopes are decoupaged by hand, titled, signed, and dated by the builder (jlp); no two are ever alike.

The list of scopes for sale in this site is currently small and projected to increase very slowly in the future. I have been building kaleidoscopes as a hobby during the very limited amount of spare time I have after work and family responsibilities. Currently, I am able to build only one or two scopes a month.

As a mathematician by training with a special interest in geometry, I have always been fascinated by the interplay between visual beauty and geometric pattern where art and science mix and cross-fertilize each other. After much experimentation, I devised an innovative technique for creating highly complex images by "imprinting" designs from geometric tiling theory onto the scope objects.

So then, these kaleidoscopes are the culmination of a lifelong passion. See for yourself, and please enjoy the site!
