"I was in a strange place, the strangest... The only thing like it, oddly enough, was in a movie called Zardoz, where a man is trapped inside a crystal." - Oscar Janinger
What is the The Hyperspacer™?
Imagine a disk that fits in your pocket and conjures surreal, scifi-like scenes of mind-boggling complexity, like in works by M. C. Escher or Victor Vasarely. Images strange but also strangely familiar - perhaps we have seen them before in dreams or visionary travels to other worlds. Three-dimensional iridescent structures twist into themselves, roads/bridges break the fabric of one world and merge seamlessly into another, disembodied faces from the depths of some astral realm peer back at us from the other side.
The Hyperspacer™ (patent pending) is a pocket generative art device that I devised in July 2025. It's a tool to aid creativity, meditation, color therapy, and geometric intuition of four or more dimensions. It's also the most fascinating and unique fidget toy available today. You shine a white light behind it, then turn or shake it to automatically create miniature scenes of colorful, multi-layered abstract/psychedlic art - drug free!.
Physically, it's a short cylinder (viewing area diameter: 1"; height: 0.75") with polarizer films at both ends and which contains hand-crafted geometric objects from the field of mathematics known as topology. These custom objects are quite difficult to make. To the best of my knowledge, there's been nothing quite like this device on the market. Its applications include:
- A tool to generate art, especially in the Op Art, abstract, or surrealist genres
- Stimulates the imagination and the right brain's metaphor creation faculty
- Builds geometric intuition of higher dimensions by simulating the X-ray vision and perception of overlapping 3-D layers that a 4-D observer would experience
- For color therapy, meditation, and relaxation
- A wonderful fidget toy to transform idle into creative moments
- Great for tripping
- A souvenir for those who have visited hyperspace but cannot recall anything about the awesome experience

video 1 video 2 What is Hyperspace?
We live in a world of three dimensions. From a fixed point of origin, say the center of a city, we need three numbers ("dimensions") to locate your position: how far East or West, how far North or South, and how far Up or Down you are from that origin. These dimensions correspond to three mutually perpendicular lines ("axes") that we can draw from the origin. The three dimensions are simply your distance from the origin measured along the three axes. However, we cannot draw four mutually perpendicular lines. So we say that our world is three dimensional.
Hyperspace is a generic term that refers to a space of four or more dimensions. Our universe could be a three-dimensional sheet in a hyperspace, just as a sheet of paper can be viewed (ignoring its thickness) as a 2-D object in our 3-D world. If the concept of hyperspace seems far fetched to you, consider that a leading physics theory, superstring theory, claims that our 3-D world sits inside a ten-dimensional universe of vibrating strings!
The Hyperspacer™; gives you the visual "X-ray" point of view of a 4-D observer looking through overlapping 3-D worlds, similar to how a 3-D observer (like you) would view overlapping translucent 2-D sheets. For those who have actually visited hyperspace in their visions but can hardly recall anything from that awesome experience, this device is a souvenir to remember the journey of a lifetime!
Hyperspatial Maps
To give you an idea of the possibilities, below you can find notable images that I obtained with the device. I have given these "found" artworks titles that are basically personal metaphors and interpretations inspired by the images. For example, in the picture titled "Shepherd", I found the faces of a shepherd and one of his sheep - can you find them too? Unfortunately, the photos do not do justice to the crystalline and translucent facets; anyway, I hope you enjoy them. (The videos give a better but still imperfect picture.)
The pieces are named using the scheme "HS *** n", where n is the piece number (in chronological order of construction) and "***" is the alchemical sigil for gold. For example, the fourth piece that I made is called "HS *** 4".
How to Purchase
Currently, I am gauging people's interest in the Hyperspacer™, which can be purchased as prototypes only. While these are completely artisan made, have a minimalist exterior and cosmetic rough edges, their optical components are top quality and ensure a superior viewing experience. The first few specimens are now available for the introductory price of $100 each plus UPS shipping and handling. Purchase comes with an Instruction and Care e-sheet. If you would like to check availability and place an order, then please email me at: j,pe@att.net. I'll let you know; if available, I'll send you instructions for paying with Paypal.
Please note that each Hyperspacer™ is artisan crafted and unique; the custom geometric objects can be different for different pieces.
Terms and Conditions
No returns or exchanges are accepted. Lost or damaged items are handled with UPS insurance.
DISCLAIMER
I will not be responsible for any misuse of this device. Please exercise caution and do not look directly into the light source, as doing so can damage vision. The device has small parts and should be kept away from young children.
